    ADAMS NELSON FANNING (16 November 1839- 18 July 1915), 22 years old, private, enlisted at Broome County, NY on August 18, 1862 in Co. E, 137th NY Regt. Participated in battles of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wauhatchie, Peach Tee Creek. Marched with Sherman at surrender of Atlanta through Georgia and at capture of Savannah. Discharged on June 9, 1865 at Bladensburg, Md. Returned to Newfield as a farmer. Parents Jeremiah and Amanda Adams. Buried in Sebring Cemetery, Newfield.

Wounded on May 5, 1864 at the Wilderness. Wounded on February 6, 1865 at Hatcher's Run, Va. Lost one finger on left hand. Discharged on May 22, 1865 at Wilmington, DE. Returned to Newfield. Lived with brother-in-law Samuel Colegrove family. Later moved to South Dakota and Idaho. Dark eyes, blond hair, 5'9 3/4.
